By: Jay K
Finance experts may say that recession has officially ended. But the job market is still barren. There's very little improvement. Many Americans have become jobless or are forced to work fewer hours having their wages cut. In that case when you are earning no money or little money than usual, you rely on your credit cards for living expenses. You tend to use more of your credit cards hoping that when you'll secure another job, you can pay off your credit card debts. But this could be a bad idea as job market is still very bad. With little earning and more spending you may miss your credit cards payments that can affect your credit score. If you continue to miss your credit card payments you may end up having a real bad credit score from an excellent one. This article focuses on how to deal financially with a job loss:
- Try using your emergency savings funds if you have for living expenses and make minimum credit cards payments out of that, so you can continue using credit cards without having it affect your credit report.
- Cut down your monthly expenses to bare bones. Make your budget of monthly expenditure and cross off anything unnecessary. As once you'll get your job back you can live life of your choice.
- Have a regular check on your credit report and make sure it's good as many employers use your credit report as a part of their pre-hiring background check.
- If you have no more emergency cash for living expenses then consult some reputable credit counseling agency.
- You can coordinate with your creditors on your own explaining them your situation and ask for some hardship program that lets you pay lower payments than usual till the time you're in trouble.
- If you are still not able to pay under hardship program then tell your creditors that you are unable to make the payment till the time you find another job.
Don't let this situation stress you out too much. Remember this is a temporary situation so it will also pass.
